Join My DFWMommy and help bring much needed oral care to families in our area. Tom’s of Maine has announced their “Be a Tooth Fairy Hero” art project, part of the company’s annual Dental Health for All charitable giving program.

We’d love for our MyDFWMommy readers to get involved! Get you little ones to break out their crayons and creativity to draw an artistic interpretation of the Tooth Fairy to help smiles in need. Head over HERE to enter your child/children’s drawing of the Tooth Fairy into a national drawing. Your children can make their own creations, or download a coloring page if they need a little help

Ten entries will be randomly selected, awarding a $10,000 donation on each winner’s behalf to a dental clinic in your state, plus toothpaste for your child’s entire school. This is a simple way to help raise awareness about the need for access to dental care and even a chance to talk to your kids about the importance of good oral care habits.

DonorsChoose- Online Charity Benefiting Classrooms

Posted by My Dallas Mommy on Thursday, October 18th, 2012 at 3:00 pm

This is the time of year most of us think more about giving back and I wanted to share with you a very worthwhile online charity-  DonorsChoose.org.

Here’s how it works: public school teachers from all over the US post classroom project requests online.  You can then browse project requests and give any amount (as little as $1) to the one that you choose. Once a project reaches its goal, they deliver the donations to the school.

In return, you get photos of the project, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a report showing how your donation was spent. If you give over $50, you’ll also receive hand-written thank-you letters from the students involved in the project.

Take the time to check this site out- it would be great to sit down with your kids and choose a project to give to together!

Walmart ~ Fighting Hunger Together

Posted by My Dallas Mommy on Tuesday, September 18th, 2012 at 9:08 pm

This post brought to you by Walmart. All opinions are 100% mine.

walmart_logo_214x54.gif (214×57)

In support of Hunger Action Month this September, Walmart is donating up to 53 million meals to Feeding America and give $2.5 million for hunger relief during their Fighting Hunger Together campaign. The program comes at a time as 50 million Americans won’t know where their next meal will come from at some point this year—that’s one in six Americans. We’ve all been touched in some way by hunger, whether it’s a personal experience or through hearing the experience of others. Many, many years ago I worked for the Texas Department of Human Services as an eligibility specialist for food stamps, and I saw firsthand the faces of those that were hungry. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.

image001.jpg

Now through October 12th, customers will be able to generate meal donations for Feeding America by purchasing select products from participating food suppliers (General Mills, Kellogg’s, Unilever, Kraft Foods, and ConAgra Foods) at Walmart stores and following instructions on the packaging, engaging in the “Give Meals” section or using a mobile app to generate meal donations for Feeding America.

In our home, we use a lot of General Mills products. We love General Mills for many reasons, including the wide availability of coupons, products that taste great, and Box Tops. Now, you can buy your favorite General Mills products at Walmart and help fight hunger.  Look for the “Fighting Hunger Together” signs at you store.  You can also go to the “Give Meals” section and learn how you can take one product and turn it into 7 meals.

Be sure to check out the Golden Spark promotion for a chance to win $50K for your community! Walmart will randomly award 40 “Golden Sparks” valued at $50,000 each to consumers who participate in the Fighting Hunger Together Golden Spark Promotion. The winners will choose a community to receive the funding to start or expand a backpack program that provides meals to food-insecure children during weekends when they do not have access to free- and reduced-price school meals.

We love to hear stories about how you personally have helped someone who has experienced hunger. We hope to inspire our readers with examples of paying it forward so we can all understand why helping those who are hungry is prevalent and important. Small actions can make a big difference in the life of someone hungry!
